What Does a Successful Medical Weight Loss Plan Entail?
If you’re considering a medical weight loss plan, you’re probably wondering exactly what such a plan involves. Read on to find out how it works and what you can expect!

The prevalence of obesity among adults in the United States is now at almost 42%, and we’re seeing an estimated $173 billion in medical costs related to obesity. Clearly, we have a problem.

In our attempts to find solutions, medical weight loss plans have proliferated throughout the United States in the last few years. While every plan may be a little different depending on the exact methodology, a successful medical weight loss plan focuses on sustainable lifestyle change.

Here at Voss Family Clinic, our team works closely with our weight loss patients to help them achieve their intended results. Below, we explore what a successful medical weight loss plan entails.

What is weight management?

A true medical weight loss plan begins when you reach the end — the end of packing on the pounds, the end of being embarrassed, the end of an unsustainable lifestyle spiraling farther and farther out of control.

You can take all the prescriptions in the world to lose weight, but if you don’t make changes to your behavior and your lifestyle, the weight will inevitably return. A medical weight loss program avoids this problem by getting to the heart of the issue. The goal is to achieve and maintain a healthy weight through a mix of counseling, diet, exercise, and medical intervention if needed.

Losing weight can help you feel more confident, reduce the risk of disease, and help you feel more energetic and alive.

What should I expect?

You start your appointment by giving your own medical history. The Voss Family team gives you a thorough physical exam and discusses your weight loss goals; we may also do some bloodwork to check on your hormone levels.

Dr. Jinny Narula then helps you put together a healthy weight loss plan, including instructions on how to run a caloric deficit and build a good workout program.

Voss Family Clinic also offers weight loss injections such as lipotropic injections or semaglutide products. These are designed to work in conjunction with the rest of your plan — they should not be taken on their own. Ozempic, for instance, is a semaglutide product that encourages your pancreas to make more insulin to help control your blood sugar level. This slows down your digestion and makes you feel full longer so you eat less.

The amount of weight you will lose depends on many factors, including your goals, your starting weight, and how disciplined you are about following the program, but losing 1-2 pounds weekly is a realistic goal you can achieve.

If you’re ready to make serious changes in your life to achieve your weight loss goals, the team at Voss Family Clinic in Sugar Land, Texas is here to help you on your journey. Just call our office at 281-918-8759 or use our online scheduler to book an appointment today!
